VF Committed to Sustainable Footwear in 2020
VF is an amazing company that wants to help cut down on the carbon footprint of the fashion industry. The company was established in 1899 and has reached sales of $11 billion dollars throughout the decades. VF has just committed to a 2020 goal of making sure their European designers have undergone a training on circular economy principles to design more eco-friendly garments. They have also promised to increase their quantities of second hand clothing and footwear. VF strongly believes that clothing and footwear lines need to play a bigger role within the sustainable system.
VF Green Line Agenda
Their agenda for helping their designers for creating a more green line included the following:
- Implementing design strategy for cyclability;
- Increasing volume of used garments collected;
- Increasing resale of used garments;
- Increasing use of recycled textile fibers.
This initiative includes 64 brands such as, The North Face, Vans, Timberland and Dickies. By implementing these new requirements it will help reduce the use of raw materials needed for these companies clothing and footwear lines. This will also create new revenue opportunities for the businesses and give a longer life-cycle to these new green products.
VF has also partnered with a Dutch non-profit called Circle Economy, which developed the Circle Fashion Tool. This tool was implemented to help decision-making for brands that want their products or material to have a second chance at life. It also helps brands to see the environmental and economic impact when reusing materials, educating brands on circular opportunities and also connecting brands with relevant partners.
