The European Commission Launches a Due Diligence Ready

On November 21, 2019, the European Commission launched Due Diligence Ready! Due Diligence Ready is an online portal designed to provide companies with guidance on how to implement due diligence activities for their mineral and metal supply chains.

This comes as companies prepare to comply with the EU’s new regulation for the responsible sourcing of minerals. This regulation becomes effective January 1st, 2021.

The purposes of the Portal is to provide information and guidance to small and medium business enterprises. Fact sheets, a due diligence toolkit and case studies offered on the portal all center around the need and importance of due diligence to address human rights abuses taking place throughout the mineral supply chain.

The European Union Is Serious about Supply Chain Transparency

The European Union's announcement of Due Diligence Ready is the most recent of many supply chain transparency and regulatory measurement announcements by the EU in 2019. On September 9, 2019, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced the Substances of Concern In Articles or in complex Products (SCIP) which is a database for companies to declare substance of very high concern information in their products that are sold in the EU. These recent announcements, along with an extensive chemical and ethical sourcing regulatory framework in place, make the EU a hotspot for supply chain transparency.
